After the end of sugar production in the Vysočany sugar factory the place transformed itself into
something like a fruitful designer center. Avie began here with airplane production, J.F. Koch
designed his motorcycles and it was here where allegedly a car should have been born which
eventually turned out to be a predecessor of a very popular car, namely Aero 30. According to one
source its author was a smith from ČKD, Mr. Kolínský who built it here in a provisional garage. And
it was here where he should have met Josef Bašek, who contributed with his designers
knowledge and by furnishing the drawing documentation. (According to other sources Josef
Bašek brought to the workshop of his brother in law, Mr. Vilímek, a complete design of the new
car and Mr. Kolínský should have participated in the design "only" as a mechanician). But end
1933 both together presented the finished prototype to Dr Kabeš from the airplane factory Aero.
The car was providently prepared for production and in 1934 was presented at the autosalon. In
this way the car factory Aero became the third and at the same time the last of our firms, which
turned to the front wheel drive, whose advantages contributed to the quality of the Aero 30 and
consequently to the liking among the motorists. Part of the success has also to be ascribed to the
very elegant body, the final appearance of which was due to Mr. Voříšek. The young
management of the factory favourised progressive features of the car design, but the choice of the
two stroke motor showed that it also made use of the considerable experience gained in the
production of "half liters". Due to the excellent and progressive design of this car Mr. J.Bašek
became Director of the automobile section of the firm Aero. |
